We should update abiword and check the resource consumption ..... We should also introduce stripped OpenOffice and put them in the optional repo.

As far as I know it's possible to run OpenOffice without Java, but a few functions doesn't work. I never tried it, but I've read it somewhere.

I search and tried but don't come any further than what's probably offered on Puppy's forum. Is there a(nother) way to get the Icewm task/toolbar transparent ?

I don't know how puppy does it, but there are several tricks.
The first thing that comes in my mind is that they use icewm without the original panel and use lxpanel for example.
To get transparancy things on your desktop there are 2 packages which are in the repositories:
transset-df and xcompmgr, but if it works for the panel? I don't know.

RE: Show your desktop
I've just checked the puppy solution. It seems that they using another patch otherwise it isn't possible to make the panel transparent.
I can't unpack the .pup file to look what it's like, but the other file is transset-df and this one is in the repositories.

RE: Show your desktop
For now the most simple solutions is to turn the panel off, and install another panel. There are a lot of them pypanel, tint, tint2, bmpanel, etc. You can even install wbar for a 'Macish' dock. Another thing is when your using ROX, to use the panel from it, there is a lot possible :]
