naim
Just read that naim may no longer work. According to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOC_protocol
"In July 2012, AOL turned off the TOC2 servers and it is no longer possible to connect to AIM using this protocol."

Was trying to see if there were some updated lightweight alternatives for AIM access. There is a NAIM-Oscar implementation at:
https://github.com/jwise/naim-oscar
It's based on a version of naim with lua support:
https://github.com/jwise/naim

Was also attempting to check if there were other programs affected by this or other lightweight applications that could replace naim. Some programs are updating to use libpurple (which is part of pidgin). I tried finch and libpurple on DeLi (a previous version) and it was very buggy and did a core dump the moment it was run. Had no luck trying to get help from the pidgin developers in debugging it either.

Would be interested in hearing if there are other solutions. So far, the only one I've been able to dig up is bitlbee:
